Cepheid, based in California, is an on-demand molecular diagnostics company that develops, manufactures, and markets fully-integrated systems and tests for genetic analysis in the clinical, industrial and biothreat markets. The company’s systems enable rapid, sophisticated genetic testing for organisms and genetic-based diseases by automating otherwise complex manual laboratory procedures.

DNA AMPLIFICATION AND DETECTION

Cepheid’s easy-to-use systems integrate a number of complicated and time-intensive steps, including sample preparation, DNA amplification and detection, which enable the analysis of complex biological samples in its proprietary test cartridges.

RAPID MOLECULAR TESTING

Through its strong molecular biology capabilities, the company is focusing on those applications where rapid molecular testing is particularly important, such as identifying infectious disease and cancer in the clinical market; food, agricultural, and environmental testing in the industrial market; and identifying bio-terrorism agents in the biothreat market.

CLINICAL IVD TESTS

Cepheid currently markets IVD tests for use in the areas of Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI), critical infectious disease, and women’s health. The growing menu includes Xpert™ MRSA, Xpert GBS, and Xpert EV.

MRSA TESTING

Cepheid’s Xpert MRSA delivers on-demand results in about an hour, reducing the window for potential transmissions from days to minutes, and redefining active MRSA surveillance testing. Coupled with the simplicity of Cepheid’s GeneXpert system, MRSA results can now be available 24 hours a day.

HOURLY MRSA RESULTS

Cepheid’s Xpert MRSA / SA blood culture test is able to provide results in less than one hour from a positive blood culture, saving the physician crucial hours in making appropriate therapeutic decisions.

The Cepheid Xpert MRSA / SA SSTI test allows for the determination of the presence of Staphylococcus aureus or methicillin resistant S. aureus in skin and soft tissue infections in less than one hour.

GROUP B STREPTOCOCCUS TESTING

Xpert GBS is the only in vitro diagnostic test to fully meet the CDC criteria for rapid intrapartum GBS testing. Cepheid’s Xpert GBS assay empowers clinicians to make appropriate patient management decisions at the time of delivery.

ENTEROVIRAL MENINGITIS TESTING

Today, waiting 2-15 days for culture results is no longer your only option. Coupled with the simplicity of Cepheid’s GeneXpert system, on-demand EV results can be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
