Abbott Diagnostics – CELL-DYN Hematology Systems
Abbott Diagnostics Hematology Division specializes in the manufacture of CELL-DYN Hematology analyzers for the medical healthcare and research industries. Using multiple cell counting technologies combined with true fluorescent flow cytometry, the CELL-DYN range of analyzers are able to provide a high level of first pass efficiency. First pass efficiency can be defined as the number of manual interventions required in order to achieve a reportable patient result. The main source of manual interventions are the need to reflex test due to initial result invalidation and the need to perform a manual cell count to verify analyser flagging.

All CELL-DYN five-part differential systems employ unique single channel dilution, Multiple Scatterplot Analysis (MSA) and MAPSS technology to minimize both reflex testing and unnecessary blood film review.

CELL-DYN SAPPHIRE

The CELL-DYN Sapphire is a top of the range 5-part differential cell counter offering high-end analytical performance as well as extended flow cytometry capabilities. The Cell Dyn Sapphire hematology cell counter offers true fluorescence flow cytometry incorporating a Sapphire Diode laser to enable the following analytical capabilities:

First pass two-angle optical platelets requiring no reflex testing or extra reagents
True high fluorescence random access reticulocyte analysis
First pass fluorescent NRBC analysis requiring no reflex testing or extra reagents
Monoclonal antibody processing including fully automated CD61 immunoplatelet count and CD3/4/8 immuno T cell count
CELL-DYN SAPPHIRE EXTENDED APPLICATIONS

By incorporating a 488nm blue diode laser, the CELL-DYN sapphire routine hematology cell counter is capable of performing fluorescence flow cytometry applications. Numerous publications have shown the CELL-DYN Sapphire to be a quick easy and simple alternative to using a dedicated flow cytometry system for one, two and even three color fluorescent CD marker assays. There are two fully automated assay kits available for processing on the CELL-DYN sapphire:

CD61 immunoplatelet count: a fully automated monoclonal assay providing the gold standard platelet count to aid in transfusion decisions. Results are available in approximately four minutes
CD3/4/8 immuno T cell count: a fully automated CD3/4/8 assay for monitoring T cell counts. Patient results are available within eight minutes.
Both methods have shown excellent correlation to traditional flow cytometry methods. In addition to the fully automated methods, the CELL-DYN sapphire can be used to process monoclonal markers traditionally processed in the flow laboratory. Training of routine staff is a simple process allowing flow applications to be available within the routine laboratory on a 24-hour basis.

CELL-DYN RUBY

The CELL-DYN ruby is a mid range five-part differential cell counter with high-end MAPSS technology. This purely optical system utilizes the following technology to provide unparalleled performance in the mid range segment:

Four dimensional optical analysis for WBC and differential
Three dimensional optical analysis for RBC
Two dimensional optical analysis for platelets
With a throughput of up to 76 samples per hour, purely optical technology, NMB Reticulocyte analysis and easy to use intuitive software the CELL-DYN ruby meets the needs of most mid sized laboratories.

CELL-DYN SMS

The CELL-DYN SMS is a stand-alone fully automated slide making and staining system. The CELL-DYN SMS uses a proprietary optimization of blood volume, smearing speed, smearer angle and pressure to produces high-quality wedge smears. The truly flexible system allows complete slide making and staining as well as “stain only” and “STAT” modes. The operator simply loads patient sample tubes and walks away.
